security

At Wind in the Willows Childcare our priority is to keep all our children in a happy, safe and secure environment.

Your child’s safety is of the upmost importance to us; all of our staff take part in mandatory in-house safeguarding training. Each nursery setting having a named Safeguarding Officer further supports this.

MANY of our nursery settings we use  ”Biometric Entry System”.

When you start with us at Wind in the Willows Childcare, the primary carers will have their finger biometrically scanned on to the secure nursery database. This can only be accessed by the Nursery Manager or delegated deputy. This will allow you to immediately start to use our five-point finger print entry system, when dropping off and collecting your child from nursery. If your child has somebody else who regularly collects him or her such as a family relative or friend they too can be granted fingerprint entry when authorised by the primary carer.

The System will only allow authorised entry to the building between nursery opening hours, 7:30am to 6pm. Staff monitors use of the system closely so they are always aware who is in the building. The Biometric systems also means that you will be able to call into nursery at any time during opening hours if you so wish, emphasising our “open door” policy, parents and carers are always welcome.

If you have any questions about the system do not hesitate to ask a member of staff who will be more than happy to help.

Take a look at our video on the home page to see how it works!

Further information

All fingerprints that are stored in the fingerprint system are stored as a mathematical code and not as a picture. When a finger is enrolled on the system, it takes a number of points from the surface of the finger and from the depth also, recreating a 3D image, and then encrypts this information twice using XOR Masking, and then a pseudo – random effect into the code, making it unbreakable.

The benefit of using this system is that the code cannot be recreated using a fingerprint. Also to use the fingerprint system to gain access it just does not require your fingerprint but the system also requires a pulse through the finger.

The system is purely designed to act as access control, and reduce risks of security using other forms of access control using cards, key fobs or pin codes which can be lost or even lent to be reused by the wrong people to gain entry.

We regularly maintain our installed CCTV.
