We are excited to tell you that we are taking part in Eco-Schools: Early Years Programme again this year. We completed our 2024/2025 Green Flag Award back in July and received a Distinction. The children, staff and you all as parents and families worked so hard to help us to achieve this and we really hope you will help us again this time.
This is a seven-step programme taking part between now and July 2026, this will help us to deliver more eco-learning activities with the children and implement some more sustainable changes to make our nursery eco-friendlier.
There will be 10 Eco-Schools themes covering biodiversity, global citizenship, energy, healthy living, litter, nursery grounds, waste, marine, transport and water. We believe that we do a lot already towards this programme, like, composting, recycling water, growing our own vegetables, litter picking, supporting charities etc and the children have embraced these and enjoy all the activities and experiences we take part in.
Between May 1st and July 31st, 2026, we can reapply for the Eco-Schools Green Flag Award, this is an internationally recognised celebration of our nursery’s environmental activity.
We would be extremely grateful to have your support again this year with the programme and will keep you updated with any new developments and ways in which you can participate.
Our first Eco Challenge is taking part in Cut your Carbon month in November. There are 6 things that we can all do to make a difference. Please see the attached information on how to take part and the things you can do. It would be amazing if you could have a go at even just one of them. If you do we would love to hear what you did and if you have any photos to email or upload onto the EYLog for our evidence scrapbook that would be amazing.
We will also be collecting for the local foodbank again for Christmas and would be extremely grateful for any donations of food and of selection boxes that the food bank gives out to children of the families who use the food bank. The collections will start in November, but we will send out a notification nearer the time to remind everyone.
